August 25, 2006, Newsletter Issue #17: Food Gifts for Pregnant Women

Tip of the Week

If you are sending a gourmet food package to a mother-to-be for her baby shower gift, remember to use caution in the foods you choose. Pregnant women cannot eat certain foods because of the potential harmful affects on her baby. So think twice before you send her any type of sushi, shellfish or rare meat. There are certain types of fish that she can eat (tilapia, salmon) and others that she cannot (mahi mahi, tuna). Before sending gourmet coffee or chocolate baby gifts, remember that she has to limit her intake of caffeine. Look up the allowed and not allowed foods for pregnant women before sending a food gift, and make sure you tell the prepared food company of any dietary restrictions. The mom-to-be will thank you for it.
